MAD Community is a three year old Indo-French initiative.
Both passionate about India, we wished to help the vulnerable craft communities here, very often left to one side despite India’s spectacular development.
This rural population, mostly illiterate, with little visibility and having lost their traditional markets to the manufactured and counterfeit products, is clearly declining. With little interest for crafts, many techniques are dying out.
Meanwhile, consumers from developed countries are becoming more aware of their consumption habits and are slowly turning towards a more responsible way of consuming. Whats more they know little about Indian crafts.
MAD Community’s mission is to accompany and support vulnerable communities as they transform and modernize their artisanal production.
We are convinced that, as of today, the rural artisan sector can develop to become a factor of sustainable progress for these communities.
To guarantee development and protect artisanal heritage, we are focusing on the creation of success stories to stimulate the creative sector of the local economy, on the one hand through trade policy support for artisans and on the other via our support for transforming their activity.
MAD Community’s business model aims to guarantee complementary annual revenue consistently to the maximum possible number of vulnerable artisans via commercial support so that they can stabilize their activity.
The cultural and social model must, in parallel, protect, train and accompany this transformation, so that in the end, a maximum number of artisans become independent of our project.
